Athens Greece Popular Property Location
Greece has long been a favorite for holiday travelers from the UK, and unlike some other countries it still offers a great deal for your money. Athens, the country’s capital, is located in an ideal spot, near the sea but also home to the government and many businesses. Businesspeople and families who want to be near the city and also near the many attractions of the Mediterranean have found Athens to be an ideal choice.
Athens combines historical features and sights with modern amenities and holiday destinations like no other city in the world. The weather is mild year round, with the sun shining nearly every day of the year. The classic monuments and historic features of the city and surrounding areas could keep a history buff or explorer busy for a lifetime, with places such as the Acropolis, Odeion of Herodes Atticus, Olymbion, Roman Market, Panathinaiko Stadium or Kallimarmaro. Additionally, there are a number of museums that will provide wonderful information on the city and its past, such as the Archaeological Museum, Military Museum and the Byzantine Museum.
The great food and nightlife of Athens are well known, with plenty of things to do to keep you active during the evenings. There is a bit of everything, from bars and discos to theatres and reenactments of classic plays. There are many restaurants offering classic local cuisine to a taste of just about anywhere.
For those who want to enjoy the sun and sea, Athens has a long string of beaches beginning at the port city of Pireaus and stretching along the coastline. The best beaches begin in the Kavouri-Vouliagmeni area and move out to Sounion to the southeast of the city along what is called the Apollo Coast. Between these two locales you can find an ideal place to enjoy the warm days and sea of the Greek coast. If you want another option, you can take a ferry from Pireaus out to one of the many islands and enjoy their offerings.
There are a number of suburbs where you can find great housing at reasonable prices. Glyfada is part of what is called the Athens Riviera along the coast and has some spectacular homes and a beautiful marina. This stretch of coast is located to the southeast of the city and also has some of the nicer beaches. Voula is another nice suburb, located about 100 meters above the sea and offering great views. With so much to choose from, and so much to keep you busy, Athens is a great place to have a home.
