Crete has Everything for Visitors and Investors
Crete is the largest and most popular Greek Island for holiday travelers and property investors. Most of these visitors and home buyers look at the well-known resorts of the north coast, stretching from Agios Nikolaos in the east to Chania near the western end. For someone who wants a bit of everything, from popular resorts to charming old villages and lots of history, the prefecture of Lassithi on the easternmost end of the island has it all. Agios Nikolaos is the capital of Lassithi and is one of the most developed tourist areas in the country, but still retains much of its small-town charm. It is set in a striking location on a promontory into the Gulf of Mirabella with great year round weather to match the views. This picturesque port is a mix of traditional and modern, with modern yachts sitting near old fishing boats bringing in the day’s catch. Near Agios Nikolaos are some great property opportunities for international investors, including the Istron Villas, a small, new development on a point overlooking the Gulf of Mirabella just south of the city. These villas are priced from €800,000, making them a wonderful opportunity. On the northern side of Agios Nikolaos is the major resort town of Elounda. Sitting on a sheltered bay, this is an ideal place for those who want a popular place to visit or a buy-to-let opportunity. Outside of Agios Nikolaos and the Gulf of Mirabella, Lassithi becomes increasingly rural and is full of country charm and historic sites to see. On the easternmost tip of the island is the ancient city of Itanos, which has plenty of ancient ruins to see and explore. Nearby is the popular resort of Vai, which can get quite crowded during the summer. Moving away from the town, you will find many smaller, less crowded towns and beaches to enjoy in this beautiful part of the island. With a home or property here, you can spend all your free time finding the best little towns and beaches. Useful Resources
